What is this?ArchiveTune is a free, open-source Android app that works as a custom YouTube Music client with ad-free playback, plus support for playing your own local audio files.
Is this an official YouTube Music app or a third-party client?It's an independent third-party client built from scratch, not affiliated with Google or YouTube, and it doesn't bypass YouTube's technical protections.
Do I need a Google account to use it?No account is required for local file playback, but signing in with a YouTube Music account unlocks your playlists, liked songs, and subscriptions.
Will it work if YouTube Music isn't available in my country?If YouTube Music isn't supported in your region, you'll need a VPN or proxy set to a supported region for initial data fetching, and forked versions of the app get no support at all.
Is this only for Android, or is there an iOS/desktop version?ArchiveTune is Android-only, built with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
What sync and social features does it offer?It supports importing playlists from Spotify, YouTube Music account sync, Last.fm scrobbling, ListenBrainz history sync, and Discord rich presence.
What can it do with lyrics?It shows live synced lyrics with translation (including AI translation), romanization, and music recognition for songs playing around you.

Where does the project get its lyrics and base framework from?It builds on Metrolist for its base framework and uses the SimpMusic and BetterLyrics APIs for lyrics, word-by-word sync, and artwork.
