Work in progress. If you'd like to help, please do. There's a lot of work to be done.

This guide is currently under heavy development. This opinionated guide exists to provide both novice and expert Python developers a best practice handbook to the installation, configuration, and usage of Python on a daily basis.

Topics include:

If you aren't fond of reading reStructuredText, there is an almost up-to-date HTML version at docs.python-guide.org <https://docs.python-guide.org>_.

What is this? The Hitchhiker's Guide to Python — a free, opinionated best-practices guidebook about installing, configuring and using Python day to day.
Is this a book I read online, or a package I install into my project? It's a guidebook, not a package: the repo holds the reStructuredText source, and the guide itself is a free HTML site at docs.python-guide.org. There is nothing to install.
Is the book finished, or still being worked on?By its own description it's a work in progress under heavy development, with a lot left to do, and the online HTML version is only 'almost up-to-date' next to the source.
Is it written for beginners or for experienced Python developers? Both: the README explicitly targets novice and expert Python developers as its audience.
Why read this instead of the official Python docs? The official docs explain how the language works; this guide is 'written for humans' and takes sides — it tells you which libraries to use for what and walks through the setup and daily-workflow choices the docs leave open.
Does it teach Git and version control?Only a small piece: the topics list includes a short guide on easily interfacing hg (Mercurial) from git. Version control itself is not a subject of the book.
Is this the right first tutorial for learning Python from zero? It's positioned as a best-practices handbook for installing, configuring and using Python in daily work — tooling, library picks, testing — rather than a step-by-step language tutorial for learning the language from scratch.
