What is this?
Netch is a simple, free and open-source proxy client for Windows that routes your traffic through proxy servers. It has been on GitHub since 2019 and has about 17.7k stars.
Is this a program I install on my PC, or something like a browser extension?
A desktop app you install on Windows, with a GUI. Unlike a browser extension, it works at the system level - intercepting whole processes' traffic or all traffic via a virtual adapter.
How do I get it running?
Download the latest release from the GitHub Releases page and run it on Windows. The repository's CI workflows build and publish releases automatically.
Do I need to install .NET or anything else first?
The README lists .NET 6.0 x64, so you need a 64-bit machine with the .NET 6.0 runtime. No other prerequisites are mentioned.
Is the project in a stable state right now?
Headline caveat: the repository is being cleared of all 1.0-related releases and code in preparation for version 2.0, and the README notes some features may not be implemented in version 1.
Can I use it on macOS or Linux?
Windows only. It relies on Windows-specific drivers (Netfilter, WinTUN, WinPcap/Npcap) and ships as a 64-bit .NET 6.0 app, so macOS and Linux are not supported.
Which proxy protocols can it connect with?
Seven: Socks5, Shadowsocks, ShadowsocksR, WireGuard, Trojan, VMess and VLESS - the classic set of protocols used for censorship circumvention and private connections.
How does it actually route my traffic?
Four ways: ProcessMode uses a Netfilter driver to intercept traffic of chosen processes, TunMode creates a virtual adapter with WinTUN, ShareMode shares your network via WinPcap/Npcap, and WebMode is a plain web proxy.
Does it handle UDP traffic, for example for games?
Yes - it supports UDP NAT FullCone, though the README notes this is limited by your server's own NAT behaviour.
