Prefer to Clone Locally?

This repository includes 50+ language translations which significantly increases the download size. To clone without translations, use sparse checkout:

Bash / macOS / Linux:

git clone --filter=blob:none --sparse https://github.com/microsoft/AI-For-Beginners.git
cd AI-For-Beginners
git sparse-checkout set --no-cone '/*' '!translations' '!translated_images'

CMD (Windows):

git clone --filter=blob:none --sparse https://github.com/microsoft/AI-For-Beginners.git
cd AI-For-Beginners
git sparse-checkout set --no-cone "/*" "!translations" "!translated_images"

This gives you everything you need to complete the course with a much faster download.

If you wish to have additional translations languages supported are listed here

What is this?A free 12-week, 24-lesson curriculum from Microsoft that teaches Artificial Intelligence fundamentals through practical lessons, quizzes, and labs.
Is this a course or a reference book?It is a structured course made of Jupyter Notebook lessons organized into weekly modules, not a single book or cheat sheet.
How do I get started with the lessons?Clone the repo, start with the 'Course Setup' lesson to set up your development environment, then work through the numbered lessons in order (01 through 24).
Do I need PyTorch or TensorFlow installed?Yes, most lessons provide notebooks in both PyTorch and TensorFlow/Keras, so you'll need one of these frameworks set up to run the labs.
Is the full repo a huge download?Yes, because it bundles 50+ full language translations; use a sparse checkout to clone only the English content and skip the translations for a much faster download.
Do I need prior ML experience to start? No, the curriculum is explicitly designed for beginners new to AI.
What topics does the course cover? It spans symbolic AI, neural networks, computer vision (CNNs, GANs, object detection), NLP (word embeddings, RNNs, transformers, BERT, LLMs), genetic algorithms, multi-agent systems, deep reinforcement learning, and AI ethics.
What does the course intentionally skip?It does not cover classic machine learning (there is a separate 'Machine Learning for Beginners' curriculum), deep math behind deep learning, cloud-specific ML frameworks like Azure Machine Learning, or conversational AI/chatbots in depth.
Is this available in languages other than English?Yes, it is automatically translated into 50+ languages including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish via a GitHub Action.
Are there quizzes to test my understanding?Yes, the curriculum includes quizzes alongside the lessons and labs for each topic.
