Searching Database…

What is this?Mattermost is an open-core, self-hosted collaboration platform that bundles chat, workflow automation, voice calling, screen sharing, and AI integration for software teams.
Is this a hosted service or something I run myself? It's a server application you deploy yourself (or use Mattermost's cloud offering): the backend is written in Go, the web/mobile clients in React/React Native, and it runs as a single Linux binary backed by PostgreSQL.
How do I get it running?Deploy Mattermost on-premises using the compiled release that comes out monthly on the 16th, or try the cloud version for free instead of self-hosting.
Do I need a specific database to run it?Yes, it relies on PostgreSQL as its database backend.
Any catches with the licensing or edition? It's described as 'open core', meaning some advanced features are proprietary/enterprise rather than fully open source, even though the core releases are MIT licensed.
What platforms can I use it on?The repo covers server (Linux binary), web client, and native mobile apps for Android and iOS, built from the same monorepo.
Does self-hosting keep my team's data under my control?Yes, as a self-hosted platform you deploy it on your own infrastructure instead of sending data to a third-party cloud by default.
How extensible is Mattermost with third-party tools? It supports over 700 integrations plus webhooks, slash commands, and drivers through its API options for connecting external services.
Can I try Mattermost without self-hosting it first?Yes, the README points to a free cloud trial as an alternative to on-premises deployment.
What kind of AI features does it include? The description lists AI integration alongside chat and workflow automation as a built-in capability of the platform, though specifics aren't detailed in the README.
