Overview

Hyperledger Fabric is a Graduated project under the Hyperledger umbrella, designed for distributed ledger solutions. Its modular architecture provides high levels of confidentiality, resiliency, flexibility, and scalability. Hyperledger Fabric allows for pluggable implementations of various components, accommodating the complexities of different economic ecosystems.

This platform offers a uniquely elastic and extensible architecture, setting it apart from other blockchain solutions. Building on a fully-vetted, open-source framework, Hyperledger Fabric is an ideal starting point for enterprise blockchain initiatives.

Releases

Hyperledger Fabric provides periodic releases with new features and improvements. Certain releases are designated as Long-Term Support (LTS), ensuring that important fixes are backported during overlap periods.

What is this?Hyperledger Fabric is an enterprise-grade permissioned distributed ledger (blockchain) framework for building distributed ledger solutions and applications, with a modular architecture that balances confidentiality, resiliency and scalability.
Is this a ready-made blockchain network or a framework I assemble one with?It is a framework with pluggable components (ordering/consensus, membership, ledger) that you combine into your own permissioned blockchain network, rather than a single out-of-the-box product.
How do I get started building a network with Fabric?Start with the official 'Getting Started' guide for the current v2.5 LTS release, which walks through the core components and the basic transaction flow before you build anything.
Can anyone join a Fabric network like they could with Bitcoin or Ethereum? No — Fabric is a permissioned ledger, so participants must be known and authorized members of the network rather than anonymous public users; this trades open access for enterprise-grade privacy and performance.
Who is Hyperledger Fabric meant for?It targets enterprises and industry consortia building permissioned blockchain solutions that need confidentiality and controlled consensus, not public/anonymous blockchain use cases.
What does an LTS release mean for Fabric users?Long-Term Support releases like v2.5.x get backported fixes during overlap periods, letting production deployments stay on a stable line longer; earlier LTS branches v2.2.x and v1.4.x have already reached end of maintenance.
How does Fabric's consensus differ from typical public blockchains?Instead of mining-based consensus, Fabric uses a pluggable ordering/consensus layer that network operators can swap in, aiming for performance at scale while preserving transaction confidentiality between participants.
