🚀 Why Univer?

⚡ Quick Start

Use Plugin Mode for complete product coverage and precise composition. For supported Sheets, Docs, and Node profiles, Preset Mode provides a shorter curated setup.

Plugin Mode

Plugin Mode gives you lower-level control over packages, style imports, locale merging, Facade API registration, and plugin configuration.

})

univerAPI.createWorkbook({})

Your page needs a container:

<div id="app" style="height: 100vh"></div>

🧩 Preset Mode vs Plugin Mode

Choose When to use it Start here
Plugin Mode You need strict control over packages, configured dependencies, lazy loading, or custom runtime composition. This repository's examples/ and architecture guide
Preset Mode You want a working Sheets, Docs, or Node setup with minimal configuration. This repository's presets/ and the getting started guide
Headless Mode You need server-side workbook/document processing, formula calculation, or automation without UI. Headless Univer

Keep the @univerjs/* SDK packages in the same coordinated Univer release line on the same version. Independently released packages, including @univerjs/icons and @univerjs/icons-svg, use the compatible versions declared by package manifests instead of the SDK version. If you use Univer Pro packages, keep @univerjs-pro/* aligned with the matching coordinated release line.

For API compatibility expectations, experimental APIs, internal APIs, and deprecation rules, see the API Stability Policy.

🧭 Compatibility

What is this?Univer is an open-source SDK for embedding spreadsheet, document, and presentation editing directly into your own product, instead of hosting a separate office app.
Is Univer a ready-made app or a toolkit I build with?It is a plugin-based SDK/framework: a Canvas rendering engine, formula engine, and a unified Facade API that you compose into your own UI, not a standalone editor you just open.
How do I get a working Univer instance running? You call createUniver() against a container element in your page, either using Plugin Mode (manually compose individual packages) or Preset Mode (curated plugin collections for a fast Sheets/Docs/Node setup).
What Node.js or browser version do I need?Headless Univer needs Node.js 18.17.0+, while developing the monorepo itself needs Node.js 22.18+ and pnpm 11+; in the browser it targets Chrome 88+, Firefox 90+, Safari 14.1+, Edge 88+ and Electron 12+, and may need an Intl.Segmenter polyfill.
Are all office surfaces (Sheets, Docs, Slides) equally finished? No — Sheets is the most mature surface, while Slides and the data-table 'Bases' feature are still under active development, and many advanced capabilities (real-time collaboration, import/export, charts, pivot tables) only exist in the commercial Univer Pro layer, not the open-source core.
Is the whole SDK free to use, or is part of it paid? The repository's packages are Apache-2.0 licensed and usable standalone, but Univer Pro is a separate commercial extension layer for collaboration, import/export, and enterprise/server features.
What is the difference between Plugin Mode and Preset Mode?Plugin Mode lets you manually compose individual Univer packages for full control over loading, styling, and bundle size, while Preset Mode uses curated plugin bundles to get a working Sheets, Docs, or Node setup quickly.
Why is Univer described as an 'Office Harness for AI Agents'?Univer can run headless in Node.js, so AI agents and automation scripts can manipulate spreadsheets, documents, and PDFs through the same Facade API used in the browser, without needing any UI.
Which UI frameworks can I build the interface with?Univer's view layer is built on React 18 (with compatibility back to React 16.9/17 and forward to React 19) and also ships integrations for Vue and Web Components.
What is Univer Pro and what does it add on top of the open-source core?Univer Pro is a separately developed commercial layer adding real-time collaboration, import/export, printing, charts, pivot tables, and server-side services on top of the OSS Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Bases packages.
