What is this?
Weex is an open-source framework from Alibaba for building cross-platform mobile UI: one interface codebase that runs on Android, iOS and the Web.
Is it a framework I build a whole app with, or a library I call from existing code?
It is an app framework, not a utility library: Weex supplies the UI runtime for each platform and you build your app's interface on top of it, integrated as an SDK.
How do I get it into my project?
The README documents only one path: building from source via its How To Build guide. The JS framework is assembled with npm scripts — npm run build chains the env, jsfm, vue and rax builds.
What do I need installed before I can build it?
Node.js 8 or newer is required for the JS build. Since the targets are Android, iOS and Web, you also need the native toolchains for the mobile platforms you ship to.
Which devices and OS versions does it support?
Android 4.1 (API 16) and up, iOS 9.0 and up, and the Web on engines from WebKit 534.30 onwards.
Is it free to use, including commercially?
Yes. Weex is released under the Apache License 2.0, so it is free to use, modify and redistribute, including in commercial apps.
Can I write the UI in Vue or Rax?
Yes. The build pipeline has dedicated targets for both — npm run build:vue and npm run build:rax — and the repo ships weex-vue-framework and weex-rax-framework packages.
Is Weex still alive, or abandoned?
The repository is not archived on GitHub and has around 18.5k stars, so it remains publicly maintained as a project; the README itself is kept minimal and points contributors to a Contributing Guide.
