What is this?AirPodsDesktop brings the AirPods experience you get on an iPhone to Windows (with an in-progress Linux build): a tray app showing battery levels, automatic ear-detection media control, and low-latency audio mode.
What Windows version do I need?Official builds require Windows 10 version 1809 or newer, or Windows 11, on x64 hardware.
Does it work on 32-bit Windows or ARM64 machines? No, only 64-bit (x64) Windows is officially supported; 32-bit Windows and ARM64 builds are not offered.
Is the Linux version ready to use?Not yet — Linux support is listed as work-in-progress alongside Windows, so Windows is currently the only supported platform.
What can it do besides show battery percentage? It adds automatic ear-detection that pauses/resumes media playback when you take an AirPod out, a low audio latency mode, and animated popups with light, dark, or system-matching themes.
Why build this instead of waiting for Apple to support it?Apple never shipped an official AirPods companion for Windows, so this project reverse-engineers the Bluetooth LE protocol Apple's own devices use, building on prior work like OpenPods, MagicPods, and published research on Apple's BLE Continuity protocols.
Is this app free and open source?Yes, it's released under the GPL-3.0 license, and its UI and backend are built on Qt 6.8.3 plus several MIT/BSL-licensed libraries like spdlog and cpr.
Which topics is it in?monitor, bluetooth, c++, desktop, tool, windows
