Skills: Research Paper Writing

中文介绍.

Important Attribution Most writing knowledge and methodology in this repository comes from Prof. Peng Sida (彭思达)'s open study notes: https://pengsida.notion.site/c1a22465a0fa4b15a12985223916048e Prof. Peng's original repository: https://github.com/pengsida/learning_research I sincerely thank Prof. Peng for openly sharing these valuable experiences. My contribution is organization, structured adaptation, and packaging as reusable Skills.

Repository Overview

This repository currently provides one skill package:

Typical use cases:

Installation

Assume you are in the repository root.

1) Codex

Copy the skill into $CODEX_HOME/skills/:

mkdir -p "$CODEX_HOME/skills"
cp -R research-paper-writing "$CODEX_HOME/skills/"

Usage example:

Use $research-paper-writing to improve my paper's Introduction.

2) CC (Claude Code)

Use either a global or project-level installation.

Global:

mkdir -p "$HOME/.claude/skills"
cp -R research-paper-writing "$HOME/.claude/skills/"

Project-level:

mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -R research-paper-writing .claude/skills/

In prompts, explicitly request this skill, for example: Please use the research-paper-writing skill.

3) Gemini

Copy this skill into your Gemini skills directory:

mkdir -p "$HOME/.gemini/skills"
cp -R research-paper-writing "$HOME/.gemini/skills/"

Then ask concrete tasks in Gemini (for example, rewriting an Abstract with claim-evidence checks).

Credits

Again, this repository is primarily based on Prof. Peng Sida (彭思达)'s open notes, while my work focuses on curation and Skills adaptation. Prof. Peng's original repository: https://github.com/pengsida/learning_research

Searching Database…

What is this? This repository packages a 'research-paper-writing' Skill that teaches AI coding agents how to draft and improve ML/CV/NLP papers (Abstract, Introduction, Method, Experiments, Conclusion), curated and adapted from Prof. Peng Sida's open writing notes.
Is this a standalone app or a skill package I install into an agent? It is a single Skill package, not a standalone app: a folder with a SKILL.md core-workflow file, a references/ directory of section-specific writing guides and templates, and an agents/openai.yaml metadata file, meant to be copied into an AI coding agent's skills directory.
How do I install this skill?Copy the research-paper-writing folder into your agent's skills directory: $CODEXHOME/skills/ for Codex, a global or project-level skills folder for Claude Code, or your Gemini skills directory.
Which coding agents does it work with?It is designed for Codex, Claude Code (CC), and Gemini.
Do I need to explicitly ask for this skill, or does it activate automatically? In Claude Code you must explicitly request it in your prompt, for example by saying 'Please use the research-paper-writing skill.'
What writing tasks can this skill actually help with?Drafting or rewriting Abstract, Introduction, Method, Experiments, and Conclusion sections, improving paragraph flow and section logic, checking claim-evidence alignment, and running a pre-submission self-review from a reviewer's mindset.
Who originally developed the writing methodology behind this skill? Most of the knowledge comes from Prof. Peng Sida's (彭思达) openly shared study notes; the repository author's contribution is organizing, adapting, and packaging that material as a reusable Skill.
Does this repository contain multiple skills? No, it currently contains just one skill package, research-paper-writing, covering the full paper-writing workflow.
