AirBeep

🌍 Languages: English | 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese)

AirBeep is an iOS utility that silences the built-in call-recording disclosure tones. Flip one switch to replace the start and stop sounds with equal-length silence; flip it again to restore the original files from the automatic backup.

Features

How it works

AirBeep requests scoped container access for these system files:

The replacement files are based on the silent assets from AirliftSilence and keep the original durations. Backups are stored in the app's Documents directory under AirBeepBackups.

Requirements

AirBeep relies on non-public system behavior. Compatibility can change between iOS releases. Removing a recording disclosure can affect whether another party is notified that a call is being recorded. Use the app only where permitted by local law and with the required consent.

Build

Open airbeep.xcodeproj, select the airbeep target, set your signing team, and build to a physical device.

For an unsigned IPA, run the Release unsigned IPA workflow in GitHub Actions. The artifact is named airbeep-v<version>-unsigned.ipa.

What is this?AirBeep is an iOS utility that silences the built-in call-recording disclosure tones (the beeps that signal a call is being recorded), with one switch to toggle the change and restore the originals.
Is this a system tweak or a regular sandboxed app?It is a regular iOS app that uses scoped container access to reach two specific system audio files (the start and stop disclosure tones) rather than a jailbreak tweak.
How do I build and install it?Open airbeep.xcodeproj in Xcode, select the airbeep target, set your signing team, and build to a physical device, or use the Release unsigned IPA GitHub Actions workflow to get a prebuilt unsigned IPA.
What device and tools do I need? You need a physical iPhone or iPad on iOS/iPadOS 27.0-27.2 B2 (no simulator) and Xcode 27 or newer if building locally.
Is this reliable across iOS updates? No guarantee — the app depends on non-public system behavior, so compatibility can break on new iOS releases.
Is there a legal catch to using this?Yes — disabling the disclosure tone can mean the other party isn't notified a call is being recorded, so you must only use it where permitted by law and with required consent.
What exactly happens when I flip the switch? It swaps the StartDisclosureWithTone.m4a and StopDisclosure.caf system files for same-duration silent audio based on AirliftSilence's assets; flipping back restores the originals from a local backup.
Where are the original tone files kept? They're backed up once, before the first change, in the app's Documents directory under AirBeepBackups, and that backup is never overwritten.
Does the app verify the file swap worked?Yes, it performs a file read-back verification after every write to confirm the change took effect.
Why does the project credit several other repos?AirBeep builds on AirliftSilence's silent tone assets, reuses Placard's iOS project/container-access structure, and retains research from the airlift/AirTraffic/Airlock projects as dependencies.
