You've decided to build a SaaS app with the Open SaaS template. Great choice!

This template is:

  1. fully open-source
  2. completely free to use and distribute
  3. comes with a ton of features out of the box!
  4. ready to work with your favorite AI coding tool or agent (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, etc.)

🧑‍💻 Check it out in action here: OpenSaaS.sh 📚 Check out the Docs here: Open SaaS Docs

What's inside?

The template itself is built on top of some very powerful tools and frameworks, including:

Because we're using Wasp as the full-stack framework, we can leverage a lot of its features to build our SaaS in record time, including:

You also get access to Wasp's diverse, helpful community if you get stuck or need help.

Getting Started

Simple Instructions

First, to install the latest version of Wasp on macOS, Linux, or Windows with WSL, run the following command:

npm i -g @wasp.sh/wasp-cli

Then, create a new SaaS app with the following command:

wasp new -t saas

This will create a clean copy of the Open SaaS template into a new directory, and you can start building your SaaS app right away!

Detailed Instructions

For everything you need to know about getting started and using this template, check out the Open SaaS Docs.

We've documented everything in great detail, including installation instructions, pulling updates to the template, guides for integrating services, SEO, deployment, and more. 🚀

Getting Help & Providing Feedback

Development Tools

Code Quality Tools

This repository includes comprehensive code quality tooling to help maintain code standards:

Prettier (Code Formatting)

Prettier is configured for automatic code formatting across all JavaScript, TypeScript, and other supported files.

# Check if files are formatted correctly
npm run prettier:check

# Automatically format all files
npm run prettier:format

ESLint (Code Linting)

ESLint is configured with TypeScript and React support to catch potential bugs and enforce code quality standards.

# Run ESLint to check for issues
npm run lint

# Automatically fix fixable issues
npm run lint:fix

The ESLint configuration includes:

Both Prettier and ESLint checks are automatically run in CI/CD pipelines to ensure code quality.

For information about other development tools used to maintain derived projects (like opensaas.sh and template-test), see tools/README.md.

Contributing

Note that we've tried to get as many of the core features of a SaaS app into this template as possible, but there still might be some missing features or functionality.

We could always use some help tying up loose ends: contributions are welcome! Check out CONTRIBUTING.md for more details.

What is this?Open SaaS is a free, open-source SaaS boilerplate built on the Wasp full-stack framework (React, NodeJS, Prisma). One scaffold gives you auth, payments, email, background jobs, a landing page, file uploads, an admin dashboard and more out of the box.
Is this a framework itself, or a ready-made app I customize? It's a template, not a framework: you generate a project from it and build your product on top of that code. Under the hood it sits on Wasp (a full-stack React, NodeJS, Prisma framework) plus Astro's Starlight for the docs and blog.
How do I get started with it?Install the Wasp CLI first (macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL), then run the provided command to create a new SaaS app — it copies the Open SaaS template into a fresh directory you can start building in right away.
What do I need installed or signed up for before using it?You need the Wasp CLI and a Node.js environment: the app is React on the front end, NodeJS on the back end, with Prisma on a PostgreSQL database. Email sending and payments also require an account with a provider like SendGrid or Stripe.
Does it work on Windows, or are there any gotchas?Windows is supported only through WSL, not natively. The authors also note that some SaaS features may still be missing — it's an open template that welcomes contributions to fill the gaps.
How do I deploy the finished app?One command deploys the database, server and client to Railway or Fly.io through the CLI, or you can deploy manually to any other hosting service of your choice.
Which payment providers does it support?Stripe, Polar.sh, or Lemon Squeezy — you pick whichever fits your products, since the payments flow is already prebuilt in the template.
What comes in the box besides auth and payments?Email sending (SendGrid, MailGun, or SMTP), AWS S3 file uploads, background cron jobs and queues, analytics (Plausible or Google Analytics), Playwright end-to-end tests, and an OpenAI example with function calling.
What does AI-ready mean here? The repo ships a tailored AGENTS.md, custom plugins, skills and rules for AI-assisted coding with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode and similar tools, so coding agents understand how to work with the codebase.
Is it really 100% free?Yes — it's fully open-source under the MIT license and free to use and distribute, with no paid tier mentioned anywhere.
