What is this?It is the Rust community's awesome-list: a curated catalog of Rust code and resources, where every entry is a link to a project with a one-line description.
Is it one giant list, or how is it organized? It splits into Applications, Development tools, and Libraries, plus Registries and Resources, and each is subdivided by domain — Audio and Music, Blockchain, Games, Cryptography, and dozens more.
Do all the entries actually work, or are some half-baked?Expect a mix — entries are candid one-liners, and some admit early status: Arti, the Tor implementation, is listed as 'a not-very-complete client. But watch this space!'
I'm new to Rust — is this for me, or for seasoned crate authors? Both: categories run from emulators and operating systems to astronomy, eBPF, and bioinformatics, so newcomers can explore while specialists drill into their niche.
If I fork this list for my own curated collection, is that allowed?Yes — the repo is licensed CC0-1.0, a public-domain-style license, so you can copy, modify, and republish the list, even commercially.
What is the difference between the Applications, Development tools, and Libraries sections?Applications are ready-to-run software — terminal emulators, VPNs, database tools, games. Development tools cover build systems, debuggers, profilers, and formatters, while Libraries are crates to pull into your own code, from cryptography to GUI.
Which well-known projects are in the list?Plenty you may already use: the Deno JavaScript/TypeScript runtime, Alacritty and WezTerm terminal emulators, Magisk for Android modding, the SWC JavaScript compiler, Servo's browser engine, and the Wasmer WebAssembly runtime.
Is the list still being updated, or has it gone stale? It tracks the current ecosystem: recent entries include a TUI for browsing AI models and a terminal client for DeepSeek coding agents, and the repo, started in 2014, is neither archived nor a fork.
How does a project get included — can anyone add one?The README opens with an invitation to contribute, and additions land as pull requests that pass the repo's CI workflows (lint, approve, and pr-tidyup checks) rather than being added automatically.
