What is this?
A free cross-platform desktop app that sniffs and downloads videos, audio, images, m3u8 streams and live streams from Chinese platforms like WeChat Video, Douyin, Kuaishou, Xiaohongshu, Kugou and QQ Music.
How does it actually grab the videos — do I paste links, or how does it work?
Not a browser extension and not paste-a-link: it runs a local proxy that captures your traffic, the same idea as Fiddler or Charles, but it filters out downloadable resources and shows them in a simple GUI list.
How do I grab my first video?
Install it, allow the certificate and network access when prompted, click 'Start Proxy' in the top-left of the home screen, pick the resource types, then open the video page — found files appear in the app's resource list.
It stopped catching resources, and my internet broke after closing it — what do I check?
Two proxy gotchas: if nothing is caught, verify the system proxy is set to 127.0.0.1 port 8899; if you lose internet after quitting the app, switch the system proxy off manually.
Which systems does it run on? I'm still on Windows 7.
Windows, macOS and Linux. Windows 7 users should take version 2.3.0, the legacy Electron build; besides the current Go + Wails build there is also a Mini version that shows the UI in your default browser.
Can it fetch resources from a restricted network?
Yes — the proxy capture supports configuring an upstream proxy, so traffic can pass through another proxy to reach resources that are blocked or unreachable on your own network.
Why a traffic sniffer instead of a paste-the-link downloader?
Sources like WeChat Video feeds and mini-programs don't expose copyable links, so sniffing the traffic catches whatever actually plays — and unlike Fiddler or DevTools, it pre-filters the resources so ordinary users never dig through raw packets.
Is it free, and can I use it for work?
The app is free under the Apache-2.0 license, but the README's disclaimer restricts it to learning and research purposes — commercial or illegal use of it or the downloaded content is prohibited.
Is the project actively maintained?
Partially: the author says personal matters leave limited time for the project lately, so issue replies, PR reviews and releases are slower than before, and community contributors are explicitly welcome.
