Hiring Without Whiteboards

A list of companies (or teams) that don't do "whiteboard" interviews. "Whiteboards" are used as a metaphor, and are a symbol for the kinds of CS trivia questions that are associated with bad interview practices. Whiteboards are not bad – CS trivia questions are. Using sites like HackerRank/LeetCode probably fall into a similar category.

The companies and teams listed here use interview techniques and questions that resemble day-to-day work. For example, pairing on a real world problem or a paid/unpaid take home exercise. Read (and contribute to) our recommendations for ways to conduct better interviews.

If you've been through an interview with one of these companies recently, and your experience suggests otherwise from their description, please open a PR to remove them from this list.

Searching Database…

What is this?It is a curated list of companies and teams whose hiring process avoids 'whiteboard' style CS trivia interviews, favoring real-world problems, pair programming, or take-home exercises instead.
Is this an app or just a list?It is a single README.md file structured alphabetically, with each entry listing a company, its location, and a short description of its interview process.
How is the list organized and where should I start?Companies are grouped alphabetically (e.g. '0-9', 'A-C'), each with location and a one-line summary of their interview steps; just scroll or search by company name or location.
Are the entries vetted or could they be outdated?Entries are community-submitted and not independently verified by the maintainers; there's a 'Duds' section for removing companies if someone's actual interview experience contradicts the listed description.
Who is this list for? It's aimed at software engineers job-hunting who want to avoid traditional whiteboard/CS-trivia interviews, and at companies wanting to showcase or improve their hiring process.
What exactly counts as a 'whiteboard' interview here? The README uses 'whiteboard' as a metaphor for CS trivia, puzzles, riddles, and brainteaser-style questions unrelated to day-to-day work, not literally writing on a physical whiteboard.
Are HackerRank/LeetCode-style tests considered bad too?Yes, the README explicitly says sites like HackerRank/LeetCode-style algorithmic puzzle tests fall into the same disfavored category as whiteboard trivia.
What is considered a good interview practice according to the list?Discussing a real-world problem (with or without a literal whiteboard) or doing a paid/unpaid take-home exercise resembling actual work is considered a good sign.
