Universal JavaScript applications are tough to setup. Either you buy into a framework like Next.js or Nuxt, fork a boilerplate, or set things up yourself. Aiming to fill this void, Razzle is a tool that abstracts all the complex configuration needed for building SPA's and SSR applications into a single dependency--giving you the awesome developer experience of create-react-app, but then leaving the rest of your app's architectural decisions about frameworks, routing, and data fetching up to you. With this approach, Razzle not only works with React, but also Preact, Vue, Svelte, and Angular, and most importantly......whatever comes next.

What is this?Razzle is a tool that bundles all the complex configuration needed for building SPAs and server-rendered (SSR) universal JavaScript apps into a single dependency. You get a create-react-app-like developer experience, while decisions about frameworks, routing, and data fetching stay yours.
Is Razzle a framework like Next.js, or something different? It is not an all-in-one framework. Unlike Next.js or Nuxt, Razzle handles only the build and config layer, leaving your choices of framework, router, and data-fetching approach untouched.
What does setting up a new Razzle app look like?Add Razzle to a project as a single dependency and follow the Getting Started guide at razzle.dev.orgs. The repo also ships many ready-made examples, so there is a good chance one already matches your stack.
Do I have to use React with it, or does it work with other libraries? No. Razzle works with React out of the box but equally supports Preact, Vue, Svelte, Angular, and whatever comes next — you also pick your own router and data-fetching library.
If create-react-app already covers SPAs, who needs Razzle?Developers who want server rendering or a universal JavaScript app without hand-maintaining bundler config, but who do not want to buy into an opinionated framework like Next.js or Nuxt.
Will it run on my Windows machine?Razzle is a Node.js command-line build tool, so it runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, and the apps it produces are standard JavaScript web apps.
Why did the author build this instead of using Next.js or a boilerplate?Because universal JavaScript apps were painful to set up: the options were an opinionated framework like Next.js or Nuxt, forking a boilerplate, or wiring all the config yourself. Razzle fills that gap with CRA-style simplicity and none of the architectural lock-in.
Are there ready-made examples I can start from?Yes — the repository contains many examples covering different setups, and the README suggests one of them likely fits your needs, so you can start from working code instead of a blank config.
