What is this? The official Hugging Face Agents Course: a free, hands-on curriculum that teaches how to build AI agents, progressing from the basics to agent frameworks and a certified final project.
Is this a self-paced reading course or do I need to sign up somewhere? It's a free course you sign up for online; this repo hosts the lesson content organized into numbered units and bonus units you work through at your own pace.
Where should I start?Start with Unit 0 (Welcome to the Course) for setup and guidelines, then move through Units 1-4 covering agent basics, frameworks, and the final certified project.
Do I need to know Python or machine learning first?Just basic knowledge of Python and basic knowledge of LLMs — no deep ML background required.
Do I actually get a certificate at the end?Yes — Unit 4 is a final project where your agent is automatically evaluated and ranked on a leaderboard, letting you get certified.
Which agent frameworks does the course teach? It covers smolagents (a lightweight agent library), LlamaIndex (for building agents over your data with workflows), and LangGraph (for production-ready, controllable agent flows).
What's the Pokemon bonus unit about?A bonus unit (3 Bonus) explores building AI agents to play Pokemon games, mixing agent design with game environments.
Does the course cover retrieval-augmented agents?Yes, Unit 3 is dedicated to Agentic RAG, showing how to apply retrieval-augmented generation in agent use cases across different frameworks.
