Install a Plugin

For most users, the Awesome Copilot marketplace is already registered in the Copilot CLI/VS Code, so you can install a plugin directly:

copilot plugin install <plugin-name>@awesome-copilot

If you are using an older Copilot CLI version or a custom setup and see an error that the marketplace is unknown, register it once and then install:

copilot plugin marketplace add github/awesome-copilot
copilot plugin install <plugin-name>@awesome-copilot

Searching Database…

What is this? This is a community-curated collection of custom agents, instructions, skills, hooks, workflows, and plugins that extend and customize GitHub Copilot.
Is this a marketplace or just a static list?It behaves like a plugin marketplace: entries are browsable on a companion website and can be installed directly into the Copilot CLI or VS Code, rather than being a single app you run.
How do I install a plugin from here? For most users, the marketplace is already registered in the Copilot CLI or VS Code, so you install a plugin directly from it; on an older CLI or custom setup you first register the marketplace once, then install.
Do I need GitHub Copilot itself to use this?Yes, this repo only supplies customizations that plug into Copilot — you need Copilot running via VS Code or the Copilot CLI for any of these agents, instructions, or skills to be useful.
Is it safe to install any agent or plugin from this list? Not automatically — entries are contributed by third-party developers, so you're advised to inspect an agent and its documentation before installing it.
Is this an official GitHub product or community-driven?It's a community-created collection with many individual contributors, not a single officially curated GitHub product, even though it's hosted under the github org.
What is the difference between an agent, an instruction, and a skill here?Instructions are coding standards applied automatically by file pattern, agents are specialized Copilot personas that can integrate with MCP servers, and skills are self-contained folders bundling instructions with assets.
What are the plugins in this repo?Plugins are curated bundles of agents and skills packaged for specific workflows, installable directly from the Awesome Copilot marketplace.
Is there a machine-readable version of the catalog?Yes, the repo publishes an llms.txt file with structured listings of all agents, instructions, and skills for AI agents to consume.
Where can I search the full collection? The companion website (awesome-copilot.github.com) offers full-text search and filtering across hundreds of resources, plus a Learning Hub with guides and tutorials.
