CKAD Exercises

A set of exercises that helped me prepare for the Certified Kubernetes Application Developer exam, offered by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, organized by curriculum domain. They may as well serve as learning and practicing with Kubernetes.

Make a mental note of the breadcrumb at the start of the excercise section, to quickly locate the relevant document in kubernetes.io. It is recommended that you read the official documents before attempting exercises below it. During the exam, you are only allowed to refer to official documentation from a browser window within the exam VM. A Quick Reference box will contain helpful links for each exam exercise as well.

What is this?A curated set of hands-on exercises to help you prepare for the Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) exam from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.
Is this a list of questions or a tutorial? It's a collection of practice exercises and solutions organized by CKAD curriculum domain, meant to be done hands-on against a real Kubernetes cluster rather than read passively.
How is the content organized and where should I start?Exercises are grouped by curriculum domain (Core Concepts 13%, Multi-container pods 10%, Pod design 20%, Configuration 18%, Observability 18%, Services and networking 13%, State persistence 8%, plus Helm and Custom Resource Definitions), each weighted by its share of the actual exam.
Do I need anything besides this repo to practice? You need access to a running Kubernetes cluster and kubectl, since the exercises are meant to be solved hands-on, not just read.
Should I read the official Kubernetes docs too?Yes — each section links back to the relevant official kubernetes.io documentation, and it's recommended you read those docs before attempting the exercises, since during the real exam you can only reference official docs.
Are the exercises up to date with the exam syllabus?Yes, they are organized to mirror the official CKAD curriculum domains and their exact percentage weight on the exam.
Does it cover Helm and CRDs?Yes, in addition to the core exam domains, there are dedicated sections for Helm and Custom Resource Definitions.
