OpenTrade-agent app — agent sidebar, live terminal, and portfolio panel

OpenTrade-agent is a macOS app that enables agents to trade and react to the market autonomously. Agents execute trades in your Robinhood Agentic Trading account through the official MCP. Set guardrails, monitors, and schedules so agents can trade 24/7 - all on your machine.

Features

Monitor real-time events

Agents can schedule themselves periodically or on arbitrary events via background scripts.

The Monitor tab listing an agent's active timers and event monitors, including the shell command that wakes it on a new RSS post

Orchestrate multiple agents

Delegate strategies and your portfolio to any number of agents.

The agent sidebar with nine agents, each running its own strategy, next to the selected agent's terminal

Trading guardrails

Manual/auto order approvals, background turn limits for agents, and per-agent order accounting.

A pending buy order awaiting approval, above a history of past decisions and an order that expired undecided

Background sessions

Agents continue to get notified and work in the background, even if the app is closed.

The OpenTrade-agent menu bar tray reporting three of nine agents working, with each agent's status listed

Install

Download the latest OpenTrade-agent-<version>-arm64.dmg from Releases, open it, and drag OpenTrade-agent to Applications. Requires an Apple Silicon Mac. The app auto-updates from GitHub Releases.

OpenTrade-agent supports both Claude Code and Codex agents, so please install and sign into claude and/or codex CLI. An authenticated MCP connection to Robinhood via your agent is required, see the Robinhood MCP instructions.

Build from source

bun install # from repo root (bun workspaces)
bun run --cwd app rebuild # rebuild native modules for the Electron ABI (once)
bun run --cwd app dev # launch with HMR

What is this?OpenTrade-Agent is an open-source macOS app that lets Claude Code or Codex AI agents trade autonomously in your Robinhood brokerage account, 24/7, under guardrails you configure.
Is this an app I install, or some kind of trading bot script? It is a native macOS desktop app you download and run on your own machine, not a cloud service, library, or standalone script.
Do I need Claude Code or Codex CLI set up first?Yes, you need to install and sign into the Claude Code and/or Codex CLI, plus authenticate an MCP connection to Robinhood's official Agentic Trading MCP.
Any catch I should know before letting an agent trade real money? It only runs on Apple Silicon Macs (no Intel support), and it is experimental software that can place and cancel real orders against your funded account, so you are fully responsible for supervising it and any losses.
Does my trading data go through a third-party server? No, the app runs locally and agents connect straight to your own Robinhood account through MCP, with trading happening on your machine rather than a hosted backend.
What are the license terms? It uses the Elastic License 2.0, a source-available license: you can use, modify, and redistribute the code, but you cannot offer it to others as a hosted or managed service.
What stops an agent from trading out of control? You can require manual or automatic order approvals, set background turn limits for agents, and track per-agent order accounting as guardrails on autonomous trading.
Can I run several trading strategies at once?Yes, you can delegate different strategies and portions of your portfolio to any number of agents orchestrated by the app.
Does the app keep working if I close it?Yes, background sessions keep agents running and getting notified of events even while the app window is closed.
Where did OpenTrade-Agent come from?It is based on OpenTrade by Exla Corp and is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Robinhood, Anthropic, or OpenAI despite integrating with their products.
