What is this?
HelloGitHub is a monthly magazine that rounds up interesting, entry-level open source projects from GitHub, publishing a fresh issue on the 28th of each month.
Is HelloGitHub a program I install, or a magazine I read?
Purely something to read: every issue is a curated mix of fun beginner-friendly projects, open source books, hands-on projects, and enterprise-grade ones.
Do I read it here on GitHub, or somewhere else?
The issues are collected in this repo, but the README points to the official website and the HelloGitHub WeChat public account for a better reading experience.
I do not read Chinese — is that a problem?
The README comes in Chinese, English, and Japanese editions (links at the top), so non-Chinese readers can navigate it.
I am completely new to open source — is this made for someone like me?
Exactly the target reader: the whole premise is that interest is the best teacher, and HelloGitHub helps you find the fun of open source.
Do I need to install anything, or will my phone do?
There is nothing to install — the issues are web pages you read on GitHub or the official site, so any device with a browser works.
Can I recommend a project I love, or nominate my own?
Yes — the README invites readers to recommend or self-nominate projects, which makes you a HelloGitHub contributor.
How many issues are out so far?
The archive in the README already reaches issue 125, and the project has been publishing since May 2016.
